Review of the Doves Farm Organic Gluten Free Fibre Flakes

When I see something free from that I think I can eat and that I haven’t seen before on the supermarket shelves, I always get very excited. No matter the price, my instant reaction is that I have to try it! After the initial excitement and the checking of the ingredients, it’s straight in my shopping basket. For me it’s like a kid in a sweet or toy shop. As many of you know, the food available to those intolerant or allergic to food is generally limited. I’m not moaning about it, I’m just stating a fact. Free from food has come a long way since I first started eating it. There are more foods available now, we have greater variety and the taste is almost like regular food. (I think from what I can remember anyway)
My most recent purchase was the Doves Farm Gluten Free Organic Fibre Flakes. I bought the pack because it seemed to have a reduced amount of sugar in it which I can’t eat a lot of. So my first taste along with my trustee lactofree milk was pure bliss. It tasted like eating bran flakes. I used to love bran flakes (the real ones) so I was really happy. Mid eating I did my usual of force feeding a mouthful to my boyfriend who eats gluten and isn’t free from. OMG try this I screeched at him. His eyes blatantly telling me what he was thinking…. ‘Oh dear, here she goes again making me eat her food.’ Lol (It’s always almost to get recognition and further acceptance of free from food and how tasty it can be.)
I was sold on the Doves Farm cereal. I always take it easy only trying a small amount when I have something new. This is because I’m hyper intolerant to things and even a small amount of something I can’t eat can spiral me out of control and have me feeling unwell. My main discomfort comes in the form of neuropathic pains, bloating, stomach cramps and lethargy. After my first bowl I felt ok, a little odd but still ok. So as with most new things to me and following in form of my normal habit, I ate it the next morning and the next morning and the next. It wasn’t until day four that I suddenly realized that it wasn’t actually making me feel that great.
I always seemed to have more nerve pains than normal in the morning especially once I’d taken my morning meds and I seemed to need 1 hour to bring myself round once I got to the office in the morning. I knew it was the cereal but I didn’t want to believe it. Let me tell you straight I love the taste, texture, story and the fact that the cereal is on the shelves. It’s everything I wanted in my daily cereal, but because of the way my body reacts to food, I simply can’t tolerate it. I’d definitly recommend you buying it and for those of you who follow me on twitter or facebook, you’ve already heard me raving about it. What more could you ask for? It’s gluten free, organic, provides great fibre and it’s low fat and oh yeah it tastes very very good. I bought my box in Sainsburys so I know it’s available from there. Grab a box and comment below, let me know what you think.
