Review of Foodamentalists Vegan Gluten Free Bread
Written by Bunmi. Friday, February 10th, 2012
So whilst at the Leeds Coeliac food fair, I was given the opportunity of taking home with me one of gluten free manufacturer Foodamentalists new creations. One thing I love about manufacturers in the free from industry is their tenacity to make lovely tasting food for free from people.
Gone are the days when taste comes 2nd in place of just producing a simple food such as bread or biscuits. So now a days, free from food tastes like normal food, to me anyway.
Steve is the man behind Foodamentalists (he makes great mixes and all things gluten free) and he had a dream to create great tasting bread that was pretty much free from everything. Gluten, wheat, soya, dairy and all in all, suitable for Vegans as well. So once I got home from the fair, I poured myself a bowl of home made vegetable soup, and cut myself a few slices of Steve’s new creation. Now the 1st thing I realized was the texture. The loaf was soft to touch yet slightly crusty so I knew it’d be good to dip in my soup. Yum!!
I put a bit of dairy free margarine on the bread and sat down to eat. The bread tasted great and I didn’t feel like it was lacking or missing any particular ingredient that I’m accustomed to in any other free from bread that I’ve tried before. I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised.
The next day I toasted the bread as part of my breakfast. Toasted it was great. So great I would have liked to eat it with gluten free sausage and bacon but no such luck at the moment, as I’m not tolerating these types of foods very well. Nevertheless it was great toasted and of course partnered with my favourite dairy free margerine, I was happy.
From my point of view however, there was one downfall about the bread………. It ran way out too soon! I only managed two meals with it, which was a real shame. Thinking about it though, as it wasn’t sliced I think it was mainly my greed that led to it finishing so quickly, as I can’t help but cut larger than normal slices when I buy a loaf that’s not already sliced. .
All in all a great tasting bread and perfect for those of you, who like me either require many ingredients eliminated from your food, or you choose to eat a vegan diet and still want great tasting ready made food. Foodamentalists products are on sale at Foodamentalists.co.uk
