do it own your own. all of europe and italy too has very nice train ssytem. bycicles are allowed in trains. so, why you not just rent a bike (or bring your own) and then go for a while by bike, a little bit by train, then bike again and so on. like this you can travel also to rome and florence and keep the bikes with you. cheap accomodation is easy to find. always just stop at small restaurant and ask who offer cheap rooms nearby. it works great. i’m german, my husband is american and we were backpacking throughout italy and always find a nice place to stay and kept going, when we have seen enough. just we did all by trains, didn’t use bikes. but nothing to see not to take a bike along.
