Dream it, believe it and achieve it.

It was recently my birthday and I’ve just passed that 25-30 age bracket . I’m a typical piscean , a dreamer to a T. I’m a believer in anything is possible and that with every problem, there is always a solution.
My motto in life “Dream it, Believe it and Achieve it” is one that I carry through life. Whether when I was ill and spending time in hospital, or just in every day life. I remember when I was a kid reading the Walt Disney quote “if you can dream it, you can do it.” So I have to say, I’ve always stuck with that in life.
For years now I haven’t had a typical birthday. I’ve mostly been unwell the last 6 years so this year was extra special for me. I could actually go out for a meal or go out with friends and most of all i could make a wish for a nice present rather than a wish that I just wanted to ‘feel better soon.’
So as it was a Wednesday, I decided on a quiet birthday for myself. I stayed in bed a longer, warranting myself a little lie in (Well half an hour, most of you know how bad a sleeper I can be. For example it’s 3am and I’ve woken up and decided to write this blog.)
I took my time getting ready and made my way into work. I’d planned to take the day off, but I love my job so I went into work as I knew I’d enjoy being there. I knew I was being taken out for a late lunch so I wouldn’t be there all day anyway.
Lunch was nice, I didn’t go over the top and as I was eating out, I stuck with a salad and potato dish. Very simple but for me it was just nice to be eating out. I was bought a drink of cider and told “Come on it’s your birthday, you’ve got to have a drink.”. Now most people who are gluten free can drink cider, but as I’m also intolerant to sugar, I have problems tolerating it. I ordered my usual trustee pint of water to go with it. I then spent most of the meal looking at the cider the most part of my intuition saying NO and a small percent saying it can’t be that bad! so I took a sip and instantly, it just didn’t feel right. I resorted to drinking my water whilst moving the cider up and down on the table. I decided to trust my gut and left the rest.
On my journey home from my meal, I instantly knew I felt different. It wasn’t that I felt older (though I was) ……. Nope it was that dreaded I’ve eaten/drank something that has irritated my body and kicked off my nerve pains. I decided to stay positive though and took one of my pain relievers. I got home and again felt like a treat, now I’d been bought a cadburys creme egg a few weeks prior and I’d kept it in the fridge in the egg compartment looking at it and debating if I could tolerate it or not. I’m usually really good and knowing my food intolerances, I stayed away. Today though, I was feeling a little reckless. I decided to try it. I took a bite and waited… Within10 mins I felt awful. My nerve pains were sky high and I was in bed shivering unable to get warm, I fell asleep and woke up 3 hours later. My normal reaction to sugar is to fall asleep so I was used to this. The coldness though never came with this reaction so that was new. I guess it was the mixture of the sip of cider and the creme egg that sent me into over drive. The morale of the story….. Food intolerance or allergies don’t mean you can have a day off, whether it’s Christmas or your birthday, it’s best to stick to what agrees with you and leave the foods you can’t have to others.
On a plus side though, I was given a fantastic birthday treat. An SLR camera. I still haven’t figured out how to use it, there are so many buttons! I’ve been wanting one for as long as I can remember. One of my fondest moments is of my father when I was a kid snapping away with his non digital SLR (in those days, I’m talking 1987! Lol) at my youngest brothers 1st birthday party (funnily enough I’ve just remembered being put to bed on that day as I got ill due to eating too much icing off his birthday cake I think I recall I got a bad migraine and was being sick. )
Anyway I’m excited and overjoyed with my present and can’t wait to get snapping. I’ve already set up my Pinterest account up so watch this space as I snap away and let me know what you think of my pics. As spring and summer is on the horizon, I’m planning lots of exciting day trips with scenery a huge part of it and lots more free from cooking so delicious pics of amazing foods to follow.
